NFC West Notes: Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks

Cardinals

Cardinals RB David Johnson says he has beenĀ “encouraged” that the two sides continue to discuss a potential extension.

“I think that’s what it is — I didn’t play,” Johnson said, via AzCardinals.com. “I didn’t play last year. I was hoping my production from my second year and what I did my first year would help out, but the NFL is what have you done for me lately, so hopefully I can prove it once the season starts.”

Rams

A report from Monday said thatĀ chatter is increasing around the league that the Rams and DT Aaron Donald could be closing in on a long-term extension. (NFLTR)

However, Rams HC Sean McVay told reporters that this is “news to us.

ā€œIā€™ve seen a lot of reports out there, but thatā€™s news to us,ā€ McVay said, via Pro Football Talk. ā€œSo, no news on that front for us. Same thing as just the dialogue, but as far as anything thatā€™s changed, it hasnā€™t changed.ā€

Seahawks

Seahawks OCĀ Brian Schottenheimer says that he’s beenĀ ā€œvery encouragedā€ by WR Brandon Marshallā€™s progress up to this point.

ā€œItā€™s been really good,ā€ Schottenheimer said, via Pro Football Talk. ā€œI mean, he had a big play today. Itā€™s just, thereā€™s some timing stuff still. He and Russ (Wilson) are working through it. Thatā€™s a big part of him being out there but I love seeing him out there. Heā€™s been over with us during the quarterback individual stuff, which is great. Theyā€™re talking all the time, but yes. Very encouraged.ā€

Pete Carroll added that Marshall is getting closer to cutting it loose.

ā€œHe continues to be closer to full go, cut it loose,ā€ Carroll said. ā€œHe can play, but it hasnā€™t really, we really havenā€™t let him go upfield, run downfield, top speed and all that stuff yet. We restricted him some and heā€™s been told to be restricted a little bit when he plays just to make sure that we donā€™t have any setbacks.ā€
