Big news out of Miami. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have placed their franchise tag on DT Paul Soliai which should run them a little over $12 million for next season. Soliai was considered to be one of the best available defensive tackles on the market but now that Miami has tagged him, the price for players like Brandon Mebane should definitely increase.
Soliaiโs best asset is his size and the fact that he plays nose tackle. The Dolphins would have been left with a hole on their defensive line had he left but some have question his overall ability. In his four seasons in Miami, Soliai has managed a total of 70 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble. The yearly average on those number isnโt that much better than an average player but youโre paying for his future performance and his numbers are trending upwards. Teams tend to over pay for defensive tackles and it appears that Miami was willing to be one of those teams.
