NFL Notes: 49ers, Bills, Panthers, & Redskins

49ers

  • 49ers removed LB Michael Wilhoite from theย Active/Non-Football Injury List Tuesday.

Bills

Bills offseason acquisition TE Charles Clay mentioned that his kneeย โ€œstarted naggingโ€ during Tuesday’sย practice, but he still believesย he’s โ€œ100% fine.

I’m fine,” Clayย said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. “It was just something that they wanted to look out for me a little bit. It was something that started nagging, so they decided it would be best to pull me out.

  • Rex Ryan added that Clay will play in this weekend’s preseason game against the Steelers.
  • Adam Caplan mentions that other teams were concerned about Clay’s right knee during free agency.

Panthers

Panthers HCย Ron Rivera told reporters thatย DT Star Lotulelei (foot) is still on track to play Week 1.

“There is no concern,” Rivera said, viaย David Newton of ESPN.com. “For me, there is no concern from what I understand, from how he seems to be progressing with his treatment.

“But the key will be when he does get [the boot] off and how his conditioning is. We’re not going to expose a guy before he needs to be out there.”

Redskins

Redskins HC Jayย Gruden said Tuesday that they have no plans to bench Robert Griffin III, despite the play from Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy.

We just have to make sure we do our best to put Robert in a good place, with play calls and and getting things goingย offensively,โ€ Gruden said, via the Washington Post. โ€œHats off to Kirk and Colt. Theyโ€™ve taken advantage of their opportunities in the second, third and fourth quarters and done some great things out here in practice every day. Robertโ€™s done some good things out here in practice, and weโ€™re judging โ€” not just three drives in preseason games, but the performance throughย OTAs, training camp, and thatโ€™s why weโ€™re going the way weโ€™re going.โ€

RGIII managed to practice again on Tuesday, despite sustaining a concussion this past weekend.
