NFL Notes: Broncos, Jets, Saints & Vikings

Broncos

Andrew Mason of Broncos.com says that the Broncos and HC Gary Kubiak plan to have “a wide-open competition” in regards to the quarterback position.

“When he says it’s going to be an open competition, he means it,” Mason said of Kubiak. “Don’t assume anything.”

Jets

Jets S Calvin Pryor says he hasn’t come close to reaching his potential or his ceiling as an NFL player.

“I know I’m one hell of a player when my mind is right and I’m focused and I’m locked in, and I have guys around me that believe in me,” Pryor said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. “I like to shine in the brightest moments. That’s something I’m not going to shy away from. I think with Year 3, I can only get better.

“I believe in my ability to do great things, as well as make the Pro Bowl and being an All-Pro. That’s some of the things I have on my list, but at the same time, I have to put in the work for it. And once the season rolls around, I’ve got to play like it.

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton said that second-year CB P.J. Williams is “a lot farther along” than they anticipated he would be after he missed his entire rookie season due to a torn hamstring.

“I would say he is a lot farther along (than we expected),” Payton said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Advocate. “This week he’s received some good reps, he’s had some good snaps. He’s in real good shape. This offseason has been good for him.

Erickson writes that Williams will likely compete for the Saints’ nickelback job with Damian Swann and Kyle Wilson this summer. However, he could still provide them some depth behind Keenan Lewis and Delvin Breaux in case of an injury.

Vikings

Vikings veteran RT Phil Loadholt said he isn’t concerned about the pay cut he took to be back with the team and the torn Achilles tendon he’s coming off of.

I approach it like every year, come in and compete for my job,” Loadholt said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “That’s been my mind-set every year, no matter how it may look to everyone else, whether they say Phil Loadholt is going to be the right tackle or you’re not.

In regards to his recovery from a serious injury, Loadholt says he’s “moving pretty well.

I feel like I’m moving pretty well,” said Loadholt. “I got some things I’ve got to get better at obviously, but I’m working hard to get better and those things and be ready to roll.
