NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Buccaneers

• The Buccaneers are expected to active rookie RB Charles Sims from short-term injured reserve before 4 pm ET on Saturday. (Adam Caplan)

Chargers

• HC Mike McCoy mentioned that RB Ryan Mathews (MCL sprain) is “getting close” to returning, after he put in a limited practice on Friday. (Michael Gehlken)

Cowboys

Owner Jerry Jones mentioned during his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM that he could see them moving injured LB Sean Lee to weakside linebacker next season.

“That’s really going to be hard,” Jones said of losing Justin Durant for the season, who will be an unrestricted free agent next year, per Charean Williams. “That’s quite a loss for us. He plays a key spot, that weakside linebacker in what Rod Marinelli and Monte Kiffin want to do with this system. It’s probably likely, and we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves, but it’s where Sean Lee will end up. That’s when you’ve got a guy who can play that way, he becomes next to what they call the three-technique or quick tackle on your defensive front; your pressure player. That guy comes right there with him as an important player. Durant has been that for us and to a lot of people’s surprise, he’s really come onto his own. Having said all that, we’re going to miss him. He had his best game ever last week as you read about and heard about. We’re going to not be able to replace him heads up.”

Eagles
