NFL Notes: Direct TV Deal, Chargers, Jets, Lions, Redskins, Titans

Direct TV Deal

Peter King of MMQB.com writes that the new TV deal between the NFL and DirecTV will pay out an additional $15.6 million per team over the course of the agreement.

This is on top of the CBS Thursday night package that will pay team’s $8.6 million, so NFL team’s will be making $24.2 million per year more than they are this season starting next year.

Chargers

• RB Ryan Mathews (knee) is out “probably at least another week and more likely two.” (Kevin Acee)

Jets

• QB Geno Smith missed a team meetings on Saturday when he arrived 5-10 minutes after it had concluded. (Manish Mehta)
• A Jets spokesman called it an “honest mistake.” (Manish Mehta)

Lions

• Peter King of MMQB.com is “hearing” that WR Calvin Johnson could miss “a week or two” after he aggravated his ankle injury.

Redskins

• John Keim of ESPN.com does not expect TE Jordan Reed to play against the Seahawks tonight.

Titans

• Peter King of MMQB.com believes the Titans should go with rookie QB Zach Mettenberger over veteran backup Charlie Whitehurst as they are just delaying the inevitable.
