NFL Notes: Jake Long, Browns, Raiders, & Saints

Jake Long

• Art Stapleton mentions that free agent OT Jake Long is likely to decide on his next team at some point next week.
• Stapleton still expects the Giants to be in the mix for Long, along with the Falcons and possibly the Broncos.
• According to Stapleton, the Giants believed Long would be ready to contribute in Week 2-3.
• In regards to the Falcons being an option for Long, Ian Rapoport mentions that they have a left tackle in place and Long would likely be an “in case” option for them.

Browns

• Brunswick, Ohio police confirmed that CB Justin Gilbert‘s road rage incident did not involve alcohol. (Mary Kay Cabot)

Raiders

• Jason La Canfora reports that the Raiders will install some plays in their game plan for newly signed OLB Aldon Smith.
• La Canfora expects Smith to see game action on some third-down plays from nickel sets.

Saints

• The New Orleans Saints have promoted WR Seantavius Jones from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of tomorrow’s season opener, according to Katherine Terrell of the Times-Picayune.
• Aaron Wilson reports that the Saints have also promoted RB Toben Opurum to their active roster.
