NFL Notes: Jets, Packers, Seahawks, & Steelers

Jets

Jason Cole mentions that there are “overall concerns” in the Jets’ locker room about a lack of respect for QB Geno Smith.

According to Cole, players on the Jets view Smith as an immature player and do not believe he’s improved during the offseason. Cole adds that there are concerns about Smith’s grasp of the team’s offensive system, and may have lost the starting job, even before he sustained a broken jaw.

Beyond that, there are also general concerns about Smith’s maturity as it relates to him being a starting quarterback in the NFL. However, the team has yet to give up on him as a player.

Packers

  • Packers re-signed DB Ryan White.

Seahawks

  • Seahawks HCย Pete Carroll told reporters on Thursday thatย conversations are ongoing with S Kam Chancellor, who is holding out for a new deal. (Curtis Crabtree)
  • However, Carroll added that nothing has changed with Chancellor’s status.ย (Curtis Crabtree)

Steelers

  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that second-year WR Martavis Bryant is expected to beat out Markus Wheaton for the No. 2 receiver job.
  • Bryant is apparently in great shape and his size gives him a clear advantage over the smaller Wheaton.
  • Pittsburgh could end up using more four-receiver sets this season with even RB Le’Veon Bell splitting out wide.
