London
- Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there’s “growing traction” among league office executives and NFL owners about creating a “London season ticket” that would include eight regular-season games.
- The package would reportedly include a variety of teams with the Jaguars playing two games overseas. La Canfora says that it’s possible the number of Jaguars’ games could be increased over time to the point where they play four games in the London and four in the U.S.
- According to La Canfora, there’s still no timeframe for possible expansion of London games, but this is something to watch once the NFL and NFLPA begin working on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Jaguars
- Jason La Canfora reports that the Jaguars did “extensive research” on the possibility of signing Kirk Cousins in free agency, but they ultimately balked at what it would take to get him under contract and instead extended Blake Bortles.
- Sources have told La Canfora that the Jaguars viewed Cousins as their best shot at upgrading the quarterback position, but they were hoping to pay him between $20M-$24M per year, which is far less than the $30M he got from the Vikings.
- According to La Canfora, the Jets actually reached out to the Jaguars about a trade for Teddy Bridgewater before they sent him to the Saints, but Jacksonville had no interest in a deal.
- As for Bortles, La Canfora mentions the Jaguars could designate him as a post-June 1 release next year.
- La Canfora adds that Jacksonville won’t trade for a quarterback before Tuesday’s deadline and plan to move forward with Bortles and Cody Kessler for the remainder of the season.
Patriots
-
Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the Patriots had rookie P Corey Bojorquez in their offices on the morning of Sept. 2 and were set to sign him to their practice squad when the Bills surprisingly claimed him off of waivers.
-
According to Reiss, the Patriots’ decision to not sign a running back this week reflects the good news that they’ve received regarding rookie RB Sony Michel‘s knee injury.
-
Reiss says New England could end up being promoting Kenneth Farrow tomorrow, as they currently have just two running backs on their roster in James Whiteย andย Kenjon Barner.
