NFL Notes: QB Trades, Colts, Cowboys, & Giants

QB Trades

Zac Jackson Pro Football Talk writes that even though there are a number of teams that could use some quarterback help, there isn’t much of a precedent for teams trading decent quarterbacks at this point in the NFL year.

Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon, Titans QB Zach Mettenberger, and Texans QB Ryan Mallett have all come up in recent weeks as quarterbacks that could be available for trade, with teams like the Browns and Jets and Bills suggested as quarterback-needy teams.

However, Jackson points out that there have only been nine August quarterback trades in the last 15 years, which includes QBs such as Kelly Holcomb, Sage Rosenfels, John Beck and Brooks Bollinger changing teams.

Of course, the Packers dealt future Hall of Famer Brett Favre to the Jets, but that was a very unique situation.

Colts

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said WR Dez Bryant (hamstring) will not appear in either of their remaining two preseason games.

“I’m not sure we’re satisfied that it’s necessary for him to extend that [hamstring],” Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We don’t have to have him. That’s the way I look at it.

Giants

  • Giants S Nat Berhe announced via his Twitter account Friday that he underwent successful surgery on his injured calf.
  • Berhe added that there’s a “high chance” of him playing again this season.
