Buccaneers Could Be Favorites For Nnamdi?

Earlier in the week we posted some reports that suggested that the Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles were the favorites to land Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha but as ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas writes, the Buccaneers should not be ruled out as a strong option for Asomugha.

“Asomugha’s the one true gem we know will be in this free-agent class and his price tag is going to be astronomical. But if there is a salary cap, the Bucs will have more room under it than any team in the league. The Bucs showed a willingness to spend big money once before, offering more to defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth than the Redskins did before Haynesworth went to Washington. There are strong rumors Asomugha will end up in the NFC East, but Tampa Bay can use the lack of a state income tax in Florida, a great natural-grass field, the weather, a team on the rise and coach Raheem Morris (a former defensive backs coach) as selling points.”

Whatever the league elects to do in regarding to the rules for free agency will ultimately dictate what options are actually viable and Yasinskas makes a pretty solid case for Tampa Bay. The Buc’s will also have to make a decision about Aqib Talib but as of now he appears to be staying with the team. Adding Asomugha would give them a solid defensive piece to build around.
