CBSSports.com writer Pete Prisco suggested that the Jacksonville Jaguars should consider taking a quarterback with their No. 16 overall pick during an appearance on the NFL Network’s “Path to the Draft”.
“I think a guy they should take a long, hard look at is Christian Ponder,” Prisco said. “When you watch him on tape, he’s very good at the line of scrimmage. He knows how to read the field, he can go from right to left, left to right. He’s more athletic than you think, he would be a good pick at 16.”
The Jaguars are said to be looking to draft a quarterback that they can develop and Ponder has become one of the hottest names in recent weeks at the position. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Jacksonville take a quarterback at some point in the draft but reaching for a player as early as No. 16 could end up costing them. As of now the Jaguars are in a position to take the best available player which is likely to someone on the defensive side of the ball. Quarterbacks will be available in the second-round so unless they feel that Ponder is a homerun, I wouldn’t expect them to draft a quarterback in the first.
