Pat Dooley tweets that New England Patriots RB Fred Taylor told the Gainesville Sun today that he’s “basically retired.”
Taylor doesn’t have a good shot at returning to the Patriots for next season. New England has Danny Woodhead and could even retain BenJarvus Green-Ellis for the upcoming season because of his restricted free agent status.
At 35, Taylor isn’t seen as a productive player any longer. He’s missed 19 of the last 32 NFL games and guaranteeing that he’s going to be healthy moving forward seems like a longshot.
If this is the end for Taylor, he’s had a great career in the NFL and still hasn’t received the credit that he’s due considering that he only made one Pro Bowl.
