NFL Rumors: Kyler Murray, Free Agency, Cardinals

Kyler Murray

Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley dispute the recent comments from Charlie Casserly that QB Kyler Murray was terrible in his Combine interviews.

“I’ve personally spoken with the majority of teams that he met with [at the Combine} and everyone was glowing about their conversations with Kyler,” Riley said during an interview with Dan Patrick. “Basically the complete opposite of what Charley said.”

Riley also refuted the notion that Murray is not a good leader.

“Kyler was a tremendous leader for us,” Riley said. “All he cares about is winning. I think our team took on his personality.

  • Matt Lombardo of NJ.com reports that one NFL coach walked out of his meeting with Murray at the Combine and questioned his maturity.
  • The coach said Casserly’s comments weren’t that far off: “That’s fairly accurate. Maybe not to that extreme. It might be a little overblown, but there’s definitely some truth there.
  • Meanwhile, a scout for another team told Lombardo that Murray has some growing up to do: “I wouldn’t go quite as far as Casserly. But, he’s no Patrick Mahomes or Baker Mayfield. That’s for sure.

Free Agency

  • Jason La Canfora mentions that the Colts, Raiders, Packers and Giants have been closely monitoring the safety market.
  • Teams that are doing “significant work” for free agent slot receivers include the Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, Titans, Colts, Jaguars, Packers, Lions, Cowboys, Redskins, Cardinals, Chiefs, Broncos and Raiders, per La Canfora.
  • Regarding Patriots DE Trey Flowers, La Canfora says it wouldn’t be a surprise if a bidding war broke out between the Lions and Titans for his services.

Cardinals

New Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury mentioned on a recent podcast that they haven’t made any decision regarding the No. 1 overall, despite a lot of reports and buzz that they’re set on taking Kyler Murray.

“But it’s fun to hear how I’ve said I do [know] and that it is a done deal and all those things,” Kingsbury said, via AzCardinals.com. “So you just roll with it. Enjoy this process.”

One report specifically mentioned that said Kingsbury had told people at the Combine that drafting Murray was a “done deal.

“Yeah, just rolling around Indy saying, ‘It’s a done deal,‘” Kingsbury said. “I would have to adamantly deny that.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray was “impressive” during his interview with the Cardinals.
  • Michael Giardi writes that he is “perplexed” by the Cardinals reportedly looking to trade second-year QB Josh Rosen, given Arizona traded up in the 2018 NFL Draft to acquire him.
  • Giardi believes exchanging Rosen for a third-round pick would be “poor roster management” by the Cardinals.
