Odell Beckham Likely To Have Sports Hernia Surgery This Offseason

Update:

Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. tells Josina Anderson that he’s been experiencing some pain since training camp, but “there is no decision on surgery yet.”

According to Ian Rapoport, Browns WR Odell Beckham has been playing through a sports hernia injury that will require surgery once the season is over.

Beckham hasn’t missed a game this year, but Rapoport says the injury is painful and often keeps Beckham out of practice, which has contributed to his lack of rhythm with Browns QB Baker Mayfield

While Rapoport added managing the injury has led to miscommunications at times this year between the team and Beckham, the wide receiver maintains he’s happy in Cleveland and Rapoport believes it the idea of another Beckham trade would be far-fetched.

Beckham, 27, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He was set to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season when he agreed to a new five-year extension worth up to $95 million and includes $65 million in total guarantees.

The Giants traded Beckham to the Browns this offseason for the No. 17 overall pick, their second third-round pick and S Jabrill Peppers.

Beckham stands to make base salaries of $16.75 million and $14 million over the next two years.

In 2019, Beckham has appeared in 12 games for the Browns and caught 57 passes for 805 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
