Offseason Roster Moves For The Vikings To Consider

Tom Pelissero ofย ESPN 1500 Twin Citiesย takes a look at some of the roster decisions that the Minnesota Vikings will have to make in the near future.

According to Pelissero, the Vikings are projected to beย $12.3 millionย under the salary cap and could use that money to not only keep some of their free agents, but also find upgrades in the open market.

Pelissero writes that RTย Phil Loadholt is in a good position to receive an extension andย restricted free agentsย A.J. Jeffersonย andย Marcus Sherels bothย will likely be tenderedย at the lowest level and be back next season.

Pelissero mentions that there’s a good chance DTย Kevin Williamsย ($7 million)ย is asked to take a pay cut next season. Both DE Jared Allen ($14.28ย million) andย CBย Antoine Winfield ($7.25 million) could be asked to restructure their current deals.ย Allen has a staggering cap figure ofย $16.86ย million next season, so even though the Vikings have cap space to work with, there’s still a chance he could be approached regarding aย restructured agreement that would reduce that number.ย TE John Carlson was one of the worst offseason signings last year and although the Vikings would takeย $4 million cap hit to release him, they could get out of his deal withoutย owing him the remaining salaries. WRย Michael Jenkinsย could also be on the outs in Minnesota.
