Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Packers are interested in veteran TE Marcedes Lewis and are expected to host him for a visit this week.
This is the first reported interest in Lewis since he was released back in March.
The Packers could use some tight end depth to go along withย Jimmy Graham and veteran Lance Kendricks. Beyond that, Lewis is a solid blocker, which happens to be something Green Bay could use.
Lewis, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2006. He has played all 12 years of his NFL career with the Jaguars.
Lewis was in the final year three-year, $12 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $3.5 million for the 2018 season when the Jaguars released him this offseason.
In 2017, Lewis appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and caught 24 passes for 318 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 tight end out of 71 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
