Panthers HC Ron Rivera announced that DE Frank Alexander suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon during Saturday’s preseason game and will be out for the 2015 season.

It was clear that Alexander may have a serious injury after he had to be carted off the field during the opening drive.

Alexander, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. He is in the final year of his four-year, $2.57 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $660,000 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Alexander was limited to appearing in just one game and recording a single tackle.
