Joe Person of the Athletic reports that the Panthers’ interest in free agent DT Gerald McCoy has “intensified.” However, there’s still no word whether McCoy will take a visit to Carolina.
McCoy has reportedly wrapped up his visit with the Ravens on Wednesday and while they’re still interested in getting a deal done, Ian Rapoport says that Baltimore “isn’t going to do something that’s out of their price range.”
According to Rapoport, it’s likely between the Browns and Ravens for McCoy, but if the money isn’t where he wants, it would not be surprising to see him visit with the Panthers.
Meanwhile, Jeff Zrebiec adds that Carolina is seemingly a possibility for McCoy and there’s a “decent chance” he’s set to take another visit.
Jourdan Rodrigue spoke with a league source who mentioned that the Panthers have inquired about McCoy, but nothing definitive yet.
McCoy, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2010. He was in the fifth year of his seven-year, $95.2 million contract and set to make a base salary of $13 million in 2019 when the Buccaneers released him.
In 2018, McCoy appeared in 14 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 28 tackles, six sacks, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 interior defender out of 112 qualifying players.
