ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Panthers S Charles Godfrey has a torn Achilles tendon and will be out for the remainder of the season.

  • HC Ron Rivera confirmed that Godfrey is expected to miss the season.

Godfrey, 27, suffered the injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Bills after he attempted to breakup a pass in the end-zone.

Carolina was already limited in terms of their secondary, but they’ll now be forced to turn to Mike Mitchell and Quintin Mikell for the forseeable future.

Godfrey signed a six-year deal worth $28.7 million that includes $12.4 million guaranteed with the Panthers back in 2011. His base salaries will climb from $1.6 million to $5 million next season, so he could be a candidate to restructure his contract next offseason.
