Panthers Sign LS Andrew DePaola

The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday that they’ve signed long snapper Andrew DePaola to a contract for their final preseason game.

The plan is to have DePaola fill in for longtime Panthers snapper J.J. Jansen.

“J.J’s left hand has been bothering him and we decided to sign a snapper and hold J.J. out tomorrow night as a precaution,” Panthers GM Marty Hurney said.

DePaola, 32, wound up signing on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out Rutgers back in 2012. He spent over five years in Tampa Bay before the Buccaneers waived him at the start of the 2017 season and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Bears.

The Raiders signed DePaola to a four-year, $4.27 million contract last year, but released him a few days ago.

In 2017, DePaola appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and recorded one tackle.
