Panthers Sign Veteran S Michael Griffin, Cut S Marcus Ball

The Carolina Panthers announced that they’ve officially signed veteran S Michael Griffin to a contract and cut S Marcus Ball on Tuesday.

  • The Panthers also placed DE Ryan Delaire on injured reserve.

Griffin, 31, was entering the final year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed when the Titans released him in a move that created $6.5 million in available cap space several months ago.

The Vikings later signed him to a one-year contract back in March before placing him on injured reserve coming out of the preseason. Minnesota later released him from I.R. with an injury settlement.

In 2015, Griffin appeared in 15 games for the Titans and recorded 101 tackles, one sack, an interception, and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 77 safety out of 88 qualifying players.
