Patriots Worked Out Three Including S Obi Melifonwu

According to Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are bringing in former Raiders Sย Obi Melifonwu for a visit on Friday.

Melifonwu met with the Cowboys on Thursday, so his market is just developing.

Melifonwu, 24, was selected by the Raiders with the No. 56 overall pick. He’s in the second year of hisย four-year, $4.5 million contract and set to make base salaries of $669,972 and $824,944 over the next two years.

The Raiders placedย Melifonwu on injured reserve coming out of the preseason last year while he was working his way back fromย knee surgery and later brought him back.

Melifonwu was waived with an injury designation during the preseason and later reverted to the Raiders’ injured reserve list before being cut loose on Tuesday.

In 2017, Melifonwu appeared in five games for the Raiders and recorded seven tackles and no interceptions or pass defenses.

During his four-year college career at Connecticut, Melifonwu recordedย 349 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 16 pass defenses, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumble.
