Mike Reiss reports that the Patriots have re-signed RBย Kenjon Barner on Tuesday afterย Rex Burkhead left Week 3’s game with a neck injury.
Barner, 27, is a former sixth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2013. He spent just over a year in Carolina before he was traded to the Eagles in return for a conditional seventh-round pick that did not meet the qualifications.
The Eagles waived him with an injury settlement at the start of the 2014 season and later brought him back on a future/reserve contract. Philadelphia didn’t tender him a restricted offer a few years ago and he later signed a one-year contract with the Chargers.
Barner returned to the Eagles a few weeks into the 2017 season. The Panthers signed him to a contract back in May but cut him loose at the start of the season.
The Patriots signed Barner a week later, but cut him to make room for Cyrus Jones.
In 2017, Barner appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and rushed for 57 yards on 16 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 56 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed 194 kick return yards and another 240 punt return yards.
