According to Mike Reiss, the Patriots have released DB Robert Nelson from their practice squad and signed DB Jomal Wiltz to the unit on Monday.
The Patriots’ practice squad now consists of:
- OL James Ferentzย (Exception)
- DL Geno Grissomย (Exception)
- WR Cody Hollister
- DB David Jones
- DB Damarius Travis
- DE Angelo Blacksonย (Exception)
- CBย Ryan Lewis
- G Jason King
- QB Taylor Heinicke
- DB Jomal Wiltz
Nelson, 27, originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in May of 2014. He lasted just over a year in Cleveland before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad.
The Texans signed Nelson to a future/reserve contract but he was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. Houston signed him to their practice squad a day later and eventually promoted to the active roster.
The Patriots signed him to their practice last week.
In 2016, Nelson appeared in 11 games for the Texans and recorded 20 total tackles, one interception, and two pass defenses.
