Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Patriots have released veteran TE Clay Harbor on Monday.
The Patriots need to clear a few roster spots for QB Tom Brady and DE Rob Ninkovich, who are both returning from suspension, at some point this week. However, they had a few days to make a few moves, considering that they are likely to receive roster exemptions for both players.
Harbor, 29, was taken in the fourth-round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Eagles. He lasted three years in Philadelphia before signing on with the Jaguars in 2013. Harbor signed on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent back in March.
The interesting part about cutting Harbor is that the Patriots will owe him the remainder of his $900,000 salary, considering that he’s a vested veteran.
This season, Harbor has been active for three games but has yet to catch a single pass.
