According to Ian Rapoport, the Patriots and QB Tom Brady have agreed on what’s likely a short-term extension to keep Brady in New England.
The deal is for two years and will pay Brady $23 million this season, per Adam Schefter.
Rapoport reports the deal is worth $70 million in total and pays Brady $30 million in 2020 and $32 million in 2021. Rapoport says both sides are amenable to adjusting the deal, making it essentially a year-to-year contract.
Brady was set to enter the final year of his deal in 2019. Last week it was reported there was no deal on the horizon, but the two sides have typically done deals at this time of year in the past.
Brady turned 42 on August 3 and stood to make a base salary of just $15 million in 2019.
Back in January, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said he would be “quite surprised” if Brady wasn’t the Patriots’ quarterback for “quite a while.”
Brady has said his personal goal is to play until he’s 45 years old.
Brady, 42, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2000. He signed a two-year, $41 million contract extension with the Patriots back in 2016, which included a $28 million signing bonus.
In 2018, Brady appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and completed 65.8 percent of their passes for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 3 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
