According to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders have a video call set up with Oregon QB Justin Herbert today, while the Chargers have already met with Herbert in the same way.
Given the closure of team facilities mandated by the NFL during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the only way teams can still meet with potential draft prospects.
The Chargers are frequently paired with Herbert with their first-round pick at No. 6 overall given they moved on from Philip Rivers and need a quarterback of the future.
The Raiders have also been consistently linked to quarterbacks. They did their diligence on top prospects in 2019 and appear to be doing it again this year. Las Vegas could take Herbert if he slips to No. 12 or potentially try and trade up.
Herbert, 21, was considered to be one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 draft before he surprisingly decided to return for his senior season despite being a potential top-five pick.
After an uneven senior season, Herbert impressed scouts at the Senior Bowl and helped boost his stock back up. He’s now seen as a first-round prospect and could go as high as No. 5 overall to the Dolphins.
NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compares Herbert to Eagles QB Carson Wentz in his scouting report.
During his four-year college career at Oregon, Herbert threw for 10,541 yards while completing 64 percent of his passes to go along with 95 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He also rushed for 560 yards and 13 touchdowns.
