The Baltimore Ravens announced Saturday that they’ve promoted RB Gus Edwards to their active roster and placed RB De’Lance Turner (hamstring) on injured reserve.
Ravens HC John Harbaugh said on Friday that Edwards could be called up to provide some depth at running back behind Alex Collins and Buck Allen, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.
Edwards, 23, wound up signing on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in May. He agreed to a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the Ravens, but was unfortunately waived coming out of the preseason.
The Ravens signed Edwards to their practice squad after he cleared waivers the following day.
During his college career at Miami and Rutgers, Edwards rushed for 1,690 yards on 350 carries (4.8 YPC) to go along with 16 receptions for 156 yards receiving and 19 total touchdowns over the course of four seasons and 41 games.
