Ravens Showed Trade Interest In Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry Last Offseason

According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens spoke to the Miami Dolphins about a potential trade for WR Jarvis Landry last offseason. However, the Dolphins’ asking price was reportedly prohibitive.

Landry is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent, but Zrebiec can’t imagine the Ravens spending $13 million or more per year on him, even though they like him as a player and could use a weapon like him in their offense.

Landry’s agent, Damarius Bilbo, recently made it clear in an interview withย Joe Schad of theย Palm Beach Post that his client will not be taking a hometown discount to return to Miami next season.

โ€œHow long has this franchise been around?โ€ Bilbo said Wednesday. โ€œItโ€™s always going to be here.ย Take a discount? Absolutely not. This may be Jarvisโ€™ first and last time to set himself up and his family up. He needs to strike and strike while the iron is hot. Plenty of guys that were drafted ahead of Jarvis have not performed to his level. Look at Jarvisโ€™ performance level. If you want to compare him to the T.Y. Hiltons and the Doug Baldwins, those deals were done two or three years ago. Itโ€™s his time now. Heโ€™s next man up.โ€

Landry has also expressed some concerns with how Miami has handled negotiations up to this point, saying that feels like they’ve beenย โ€œhandled a bit disrespectful.โ€ Even so, Landry says he would still like to return to Miami next year.

Landryโ€™s agent, Damarius Bilbo, tells Jackson that the Dolphins made them an offer in early December and they submitted a counter offer in mid-December but have yet to hear back from the team.

Miami told Bilbo that โ€œthey want him backโ€ but there’s โ€œstill some distanceโ€ between their offers โ€œbut nothing time canโ€™t fix. They made it clear the ball was in their court.โ€

It’s worth mentioning that the Dolphins will have the franchise tag at their disposal next year. Although, that is projected to run themย $15,682,000 fully guaranteed for the 2018 season.

Landry, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $3.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $893,852 for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Landry has appeared in 16ย  games and caught 112 passes for 987 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He has also contributed 81 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 19 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.
