Albert Breer of SI.com mentions that Redskins WR Paul Richardson came up as a potential roster cut to watch this offseason in his talks with sources around the league last week.
Breer says his expectation is that Richardson could be released in the coming weeks if he’s unwilling to accept a pay cut.
Richardson, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4,712,835 contract with the Seahawks before signing a five-year, $40 million deal with the Redskins last year.
Richardson stands to make base salaries of $6 million and $7.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Richardson would free up $2.5 million of available cap space while creating $6 million in dead money.
In 2019, Richardson appeared in 10 games for the Redskins and caught 28 passes for 245 yards receiving and touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 receiver out of 122 qualifying players.
