Redskins Cut LB Khairi Fortt, TE Wes Saxton & CB Tharold Simon, Sign Two

The Washington Redskins announced Monday that they’ve waived LB Khairi Fortt and TE Wes Saxton and released CB Tharold Simon.

  • The Redskins also signed TE Manasseh Garner and rookie CB Tevin Homer to contracts.

Simon, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.367 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary $675,000 for the 2016 season.

The Seahawks waived him a few weeks into the regular season and was later claimed off of waivers by the Cardinals. Arizona later waived him and he eventually signed a futures deal with the Redskins after the season.

While Simon has shown some ability in the past, he’s dealt with numerous injuries since entering the NFL, which has led to him appearing in just 20 total games.

In 2016, Simon has appeared in nine games and recorded six tackles and no interceptions.

Fortt, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Saints back in 2014. He, unfortunately, lasted just a few months in New Orleans before he was waived and later claimed by the Bengals.

His time in Cincinnati was also short-lived, as he was once again cut loose just a month after joining the team. The Jaguars later signed him off of the Bengals’ practice squad, but he was among their early roster cuts at the start of the 2015 season.

Seattle signed Fortt to a contract shortly after this year’s draft before later waiving him in June of last year. The Redskins signed Fortt to a future/reserve contract this past January.

In 2014, Fortt appeared in three games and recorded a single tackle for the Jaguars.
