According to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com, the Redskins have exercised G Brandon Scherff‘s fifth-year option for the 2019 season on Monday.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that Scherff is one of Washington’s best offensive linemen.
It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.
Scherff, 26, is a former No. 5 overall pick by the Redskins out of Iowa in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $21.215 million fully guaranteed rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $705,000 for 2018 to go along with a $2,623,041 roster bonus.
In 2017, Scherff appeared in 14 games for the Redskins and was rated by Pro Football Focus at the No. 8 guard out of 77 qualifying players.
