Redskins Sign TE Matt Veldman & Waive DL Doug Worthington

The Washington Redskins announced the signing of TE Matt Veldman on Thursday and that they have placed DL Doug Worthington on waivers.

Worthington, 27, was waived by the Redskins back in June of last year after he suffered a biceps injury. However, Washington later signed him to a one-year contract worth $495,000 in February.

Worthington didn’t play in a game this past season, but he did appear in six games in 2012. According to Pro Football Focus, Worthington played just 39 snaps in 2012 totaling three tackles.

Veldman, 26, signed on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State. He later caught on with the Buccaneers and Lions, but Detroit ultimately placed him on waivers back in May.

Veldman appeared in just one game last year.
