Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Redskins TE Niles Paul sustained a dislocated ankle during Thursday’s preseason game.

Paul will still undergo an MRI to determine whether his ligaments are intact, but this would be a big loss for Washington.ย It was clear that Paul suffered a serious injury after replays showed his foot getting rolled up.

Earlier in the week, Washington released their first depth chart of the season with Paul being listed as their No. 1 tight end ahead of Jordan Reed and Logan Paulsen.

Paul, 26, signed a three-year, $6 million contract with the Redskins back in March and stands to make a base salary of $1.25 million for the 2015 season.

Last year, Paul appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and caught 39 passes for 507 yards receiving and a touchdown.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59ย tight endย out of 67ย qualifying players.
