Adam Schefter reports that the Redskins are bringing in a group of free agent quarterback for tryouts on Monday including Mark Sanchez, EJ Manuel and T.J. Yates.
- Ian Rapoport adds that Josh Johnson and Kellen Clemens will be among this group of quarterback tryouts.
Washington lost Alex Smith for the season to a gruesome injury and will now move forward with Colt McCoy as their starting quarterback.
Sanchez, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2009. He spent five years in New York before signing on with the Eagles in 2014 after the Jets cut him loose.
Sanchez later returned to Philadelphia on a two-year contract before being traded to the Broncos in return for a 2017 conditional pick that wasn’t exercised. The Cowboys elected to sign Sanchez to a contract for the 2016 season and after one yearย in Dallas, he signed a one-year contract with the Bears last offseason.
Sanchez served a four-game suspension to open the season.
In 2016, Sanchez appeared in two games for the Cowboys and completed 10 of 18 pass attempts for 93 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Manuel, 28, is a former first-round pick by the Bills back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8,885,300 rookie contract but the Bills declined to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2017 season.
Manuel signed back-to-back one-year contracts with the Raiders but was waived coming out of the preseason.
In 2017, Manuel appeared in two games for the Raiders and completed 55.8 percent of his passes for 265 yards to go along with one touchdown and one interception.
Yates, 31, is a former fifth-round pick of the Texans back in 2011. He spent three years in Houston before he was traded to the Falcons for Akeem Dent.
Yates later returned to the Texans and had a stint with the Bills last year before returning to Houston.
In 2017, Yates appeared in four games completed 48.5 percent of his passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns and three interceptions.
Johnson, 32, is a former fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. Since then, Johnson has played for a number of teams including the 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Chargers, Jets, Colts, Bills, Ravens and Giants before catching on with Texans last season and finishing out the year in Houston.
The Raiders signed Johnson to a contract this past March only to cut him loose a few weeks after this year’s draft.
Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.
