Team sources tell Dianna Marie Russini that free agent OLB Brian Orakpoย “will not be back” in Washington next year.
The two sides have at least been in contact with one another in recent days, butย Orakpo mentioned during an appearance on the NFL Network that there talks regarding a return have beenย “very minimal,”ย per Mike Jones.
Recent reports have said thatย Orakpo is likely to have serious interest from theย Falcons and Jaguarsย once free agency is open for business.
The idea of Orakpo departing in free agency has been talked about for several months now, and datesย back to October of last year when was placedย on injured reserve with a torn right pectoral.
The Falcons and Jaguars are both in desperate need for a pass-rusher, and Orakpo is clearly in the discussion as one of the best available edge rushers in this year’s free agent class.
Orakpo, 28, played out the 2014 season under the team’s franchise tag and is once again in line to be an unrestricted free agent. Last year, he made a salary ofย ย $11.455 million.
In 2014, Orakpo recordedย 24 tackles, a half sack and a pass defense over the course of seven games.
We have him listed as the No. 28ย player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
