Broncos Franchised WR Demaryius Thomas

Update:

———

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms the previous report that the Broncos will in fact be using their franchise tag on WRย Demaryius Thomasย Monday.

———-

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos are expected to use their “nonexclusive” tag on WR Demaryius Thomas on Monday.

This should come as no surprise, seeing asย recent reports have said that there has no progress towards a long-term agreement andย Thomas was headed for the franchise tag.

Theย “nonexclusive” tag would requireย a team thatย signed Thomas to a tender to surrender two first-round picks in the eventย the Broncos declined to match their offer.

Klis wouldn’t be surprised ifย Thomas protested the move by sitting outย until the July 15 deadline.

The franchise tag willย run themย roughly $13 million guaranteed for the 2015 season.ย However, it willย also buy them some additional time to negotiate a long-term contract.

Thomas,ย 27, is clearly one of the best receivers in the game and has earned a sizable raise from the Broncos.

Over the course of 16ย games, Thomas caught 111 passes for 1,619 yards receiving and 11ย touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 receiverย in the league out of 110ย qualifying players.

We have Thomas listed as the No. 4ย player listed in ourย Top 100ย Free Agents list.
