Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that Clemson G Brandon Thomas has suffered a torn ACL injury while working out last week.
- Caplan notes that Thomas has lined up “at least 6 pre-draft visits so far.”
Thomas has been leaping up draft boards since his strong Senior Bowl performance a few months ago.
In addition to his Senior Bowl outing, Thomas ranked in the top half of several categories at the NFL Combine. Thomas put up 35 bench reps of 225 pounds, ran a 40-yard dash time of 5.09, a 20-yard shuttle of 4.83 and had a 29 inch vertical jump.
Some evaluators believed Thomas could be in the discussion to come off the board in the late first and early second round of the draft, so this is clearly a horrible situation for Thomas.
His draft stock will obviously take a hit following a major knee injury, but he could prove to be a steal later in the draft for some team that’s willing to give him a year to recover much like the 49ers did last year with RB Marcus Lattimore and DE/OLBÂ Tank Carradine.
