A number of reports from Friday have said that Broncos CB Chris Harris Jr has been generating trade interest in recent days.
However, a Broncos source tells Mike Klis that there has been “little to no trade interest” in Harris up to this point.
Klis mentions that he would think Friday is “somewhat a do-or-die” for a Harris trade. Otherwise, the situation could be on hold until the Broncos and Harris’ agent talk after the draft.
Harris requested to either be traded or signed to an extension earlier in the week.
Klis previously reported that Harris is looking for $15 million per year as part of a long-term extension. However, Denver will not go to this level to keep Harris, according to Klis.
Harris was not in attendance for the start of the team’s offseason program a few weeks ago.
Harris, 29, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas back in 2011. He has played all seven years of his NFL career in Denver.
Harris is entering the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million contract that included a $10 million signing bonus and stands to make a base salary of $7.8 million for the 2019 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Harris would free up $7.9 million of available cap space while creating $866,668 in dead money.
In 2018, Harris appeared in 11 games for the Broncos and recorded 48 tackles, one sack, three interceptions returned for a touchdown and 10 pass defenses.
We’ll have more regarding Harris as the news is available.
