Report: Rob Ryan To The Saints “Basically A Done Deal”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that a league source has informed that Rob Ryan becoming the Saints’ new defensive coordinator is “basically a done deal.”

Ryan is expected to meet with the Saints on Friday and there were similar reports that Ryan to the Rams was close to be finalized before the two parties decided to break off talks. New Orleans will meet with Georgia DC Todd Grantham on Thursday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that league sources have informed him that the Saints plan to hire Rob Ryan as their next defensive coordinator.

Larry Holder of the Time-Picayune reports that a source he “truly trusts” has said that Ryan to the Saints isn’t “a done deal” just yet.

Holder adds that a league source mentioned that the Saints will interview Georgia DC Todd Grantham on Thursday and Ryan on Friday for the position.

Gil Brandt of the NFL Network tweeted earlier in the day that both Ryan and former-Chiefs HC Romeo Crennel were the Saints’ “top choices” for the job.

Ryan was previously with the Cowboys before they elected to bring in Monte Kiffin and move to a 4-3 base defense. Following that, Ryan to the Rams seemed all but done before the two sides decided to back out of an agreement.

New Orleans will implement a new 3-4 defensive scheme in 2013 and Ryan offers plenty of experience with that system. We’ll have to see if there’s something an official announcement in the near future.
