Following the big news that the Seahawks have locked up S Earl Thomas to a record contract on Monday, Jason La Canfora reports that the Seahawks are also “zeroing in on” an extension for CB Richard Sherman.
- According to La Canfora, this contract would also make Sherman the highest paid player at his position.
- La Canfora adds that the two sides are hopeful that a deal could be in place before the draft.
It’s worth mentioning that La Canfora reported as much last week, but multiple reports later surfaced that talks weren’t as far along as suggested.
Sherman, 25, isย entering the final year of his rookie contract and is clearly in the argument for the best cornerback in the league. As things stand right now,ย Sherman will make just $1.389 million for the 2014 season.
Assuming these figures are accurate, Sherman’s contract would best the $12 million per yearย Darrelle Revisย received from the Patriots this offseason.
Last year,ย Sherman appeared in all 16 games and totaled 49 tackles, eight interceptions — one of which was returned for a touchdown — and 16 pass defenses.
Pro Football Focusย hasย Sherman ratedย as the No. 6 cornerback in the league last season.
We’ll have more regarding a contract extension for Sherman as the news is available.

I hope they get him signed. I am sitting here in my 5x Russell Wilson jersey wondering if I can get another day out of it or not. I need to buy another so I am not wearing one with so many food stains on it.
