Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill began taking snaps with the first-team offense Thursday. Head coach Joe Philbin switched QB’s Matt Moore, who was taking first-team snaps, and Tannehill midway through Thursday’s practice.
โI think itโs on an as-earned basis,โ Philbin saidย when asked about Tannehill getting first-team work, per Adam H. Beasley of theย Miami Heraldย . โHeโs throwing the ball well enough in the couple of days heโs been at practice. Itโs been earned.โ
Beasley asked Tannehill to weigh in on his performance thus far in camp.ย โIย think Iโve gotten better every practice. โฆ I want to be the guy. Itโs not a goal to be a backup. I want to play, I want to get in there.โ
It’s clear that there is a competition for the starting quarterback job in Miami. Now with Tannehill taking snaps with the first-team, appears he’s in the running for the starting job along with Moore and David Garrard. Tannehill’s chances at winning starting job will ultimately depend on how poorly both Moore and Garrard play in camp.
