Saints Expressed Interest In Jarvis Landry, But Won’t Be Trading For Him

Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune reports that the Saints expressed some interest in Dolphins franchise WR Jarvis Landry at the Combine this week.

However, the Saints are not among the potential suitors for Landry, as it would be difficult for them to send Miami compensation and then either keep him at $16 million or sign him to a long-term extension.

Katzenstein points out that Landry would be a luxury piece in the Saints’ offense and they will likely pursue other options at receiver and tight end in free agency.

The Dolphins granted Landry and his representation permission to seek out a trade with another team and he’s expected to sign his franchise tender at some point in the near future to facilitate a deal.

According to Joe Schad, the Bears, Browns, Ravens and 49ers are among the potential destinations for Landry whether that’s through a trade or as a free agent signing.

Landry, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $3.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $893,852 for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Landry appeared in 16  games and caught 112 passes for 987 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He has also contributed 81 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 19 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Landry as the news is available.
