Saints Notes: Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, Gayle Benson

Drew Brees

Saints QB Drew Brees said he plans on “making another run at it” in 2019 when asked about his plans moving forward.

“I plan on being here next year and making another run at it,” Brees said, via ESPN’s Mike Triplett. “My mind’s not even there right now. So this is all pretty fresh. But [I’m] just going to take a few days to kind of let it all settle in, talk with my teammates and my coaches. But I plan on being here next year and making another run at it.”

Teddy Bridgewater

Saint backup QB Teddy Bridgewater, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, says he’s “just taking it one day at a time” when asked about his future.

“Who knows how it will all play out?” Bridgewater said, via Luke Johnson of the Times-Picayune. “I’m just taking it one day at a time and trying to swallow what happened yesterday. … That’s something that stings for a while. Whatever happens in the future, it’ll just happen.”

Gayle Benson

Saints owner Gayle Benson issued the following statement regarding the officiating mistake that was made late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

“Yesterday’s result is still difficult to accept for all of us. I am thoroughly disappointed by the events that led to the outcome of yesterday’s game. Getting to the Super Bowl is incredibly difficult to do and takes such an unbelievable commitment from a team and support from its fans. No team should ever be denied the opportunity to reach the title game (or simply win a game) based on the actions, or inactions, of those charged with creating a fair and equitable playing field. As is clear to all who watched the game, it is undeniable that our team and fans were unfairly deprived of that opportunity yesterday. I have been in touch with the NFL regarding yesterday’s events and will aggressively pursue changes in NFL policies to ensure no team and fan base is ever put in a similar position again. It is a disservice to our coaches, players, employees and, most importantly, the fans who make our game possible. The NFL must always commit to providing the most basic of expectations- fairness and integrity.
