Saints Place WR Simmie Cobbs Jr. On IR, Promote TE Garrett Griffin

The New Orleans Saints are placing WR Simmie Cobbs Jr. on injured reserve and promoting TE Garrett Griffin to their active roster on Saturday, according to Brett Martel.

  • The Saints have also re-signed QB J.T. Barrett to their practice squad.

Here’s the Saints updated practice squad:

  1. DE Alex Jenkins (International)
  2. OL Nate Wozniak
  3. LB Darnell Sankey
  4. DT Tomasi Laulile
  5. DB Chris Campbell
  6. WR Shane Wynn
  7. DB J.T. Gray
  8. DB Arthur Maulet
  9. G Isaiah Williams
  10. RB Martez Carter
  11. QB J.T. Barrett

Cobbs, 23, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana back in May. He agreed to a three-year, $1.71 million contract with Washington, but was released coming out of the preseason.

The Redskins later signed Cobbs to their practice squad after he cleared waivers. Last month, the Saints signed him off of Washington’s taxi squad.

During his three years at Indiana, Cobbs caught 139 passes for 1,990 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns over the course of 30 games.
