Saints Release RB Shane Vereen From IR With Settlement

The New Orleans Saints officially released RB Shane Vereen from injured reserve with a settlement on Thursday.

Vereen, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract with the Pats before signing a three-year, $12.35 million with the Giants back in March of 2015.

Vereen took a pay cut to be back with the Giants last year and finished out his contract with the team. The Saints signed him to a contract back in July only to place him on injured reserve last week.

In 2017, Vereen appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and rushed for 164 yards on 45 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with 44 receptions for 23 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also contributed 196 kick return yards.
