According to Katherine Terrell, the Saints have signed nine players from their practice squad to futures deals for 2019.
The full list includes:
- WR Emmanuel Butler
- DT Jalen Dalton
- LB Andrew Dowell
- S Chris Johnson
- OT Derrick Kelly
- DL Mitchell Loewen
- WR Taquan Mizzell
- WR Tim White
- TE Cole Wick
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Loewen, 26, signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2016. He has missed extensive time due to injury and been limited to appearing in just four games over his first three years in the NFL.
The Saints elected to cut Loewen loose last December and he was later claimed by the Lions. The Lions re-signed Loewen for the 2019 season but elected to release him during final roster cuts. Loewen rejoined the Saints on the practice squad afterward.
In 2019, Loewen appeared in one game for the Saints and recorded two tackles.
White, 25, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in 2017. He was placed on injured reserve coming out of the preseason.
The Ravens elected to waive White at the start of the 2018 regular season and he was on and off of their roster. The Jets signed him to a futures contract this past January before waiving him coming out of the preseason.
In 2018, White appeared in three games for the Ravens and caught one pass for 14 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also contributed 210 total kick and punt return yards.
