Saints Waive Four Including LB Shayne Skov, Sign Four

The New Orleans Saints officially waived TE Alex Ellis, LB Shayne Skov, G Nate Theaker and OT John Theus (injured) on Wednesday.

The Saints also signed four players including OT Jermony Irwin, WR Keith Kirkwood, DT Henry Mondeaux and TE Deon Yelder.

Should Theus clear waivers on Tuesday, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list.

Skov, 27, signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in 2014. He had a brief stint with the Buccaneers but has spent the majority of his NFL career on and off of the 49ers’ active roster.

San Francisco elected to cut Skov loose coming out the preseason last year before adding him to their practice squad at the start of the regular season.

The 49ers re-signed him to a contract this past August but he wound up being among their final roster cuts. The Saints signed him to their practice squad back in October and brought him back on a futures deal this past January.

In 2016, Skov appeared in nine games and recorded eight tackles for the 49ers before he was placed on injured reserve.
