The New Orleans Saints officially waived OL Michael Ola and DB DeShawn Shead on Saturday and promoted WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey and FB Ricky Ortiz to their active roster.
Shead, 28, originally signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Portland State back in 2012. He returned to the Seahawks on a one-year exclusive rights contract for the 2016 season.
Seattle declined to tender Shead a contract as a restricted free agent back in 2017 but later brought him back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Since then, he has played for the Lions, Seahawks and Raiders before signing on with the Saints a few days ago.
In 2018, Shead appeared in 12 games for the Lions and recorded 18 total tackles and one forced fumble.
Ola, 31, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Hampton back in 2014. He lasted just a few months in Miami before catching on with the Bears.
After stints with the Chargers, Lions, Seahawks, Giants, Bills and Chargers, Ola signed on with the Saints in May of last year and was on and off of their roster. New Orleans brought him back on a one-year contract this past March only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.
Ola returned to the Saints a few weeks ago.
In 2019, Ola has been active for two games with the Saints.
